SECOND THOUGHTS

by Bob Markey

For years insufferable

Mini winged creatures

invaded my home

in the summer.

No doubt attracted

by bread crubs and

food left too long

in the sink.

Okay, okay! My fault!

But don't think I

haven't planned

retaliation.

Hardware Sales was

the place to look

for weaponry...

an old style

narrow aisled store

staffed by a

lot of folks who know

where to find stuff.

Flypaper wouldn't do.

Two spools hung all

last season and

didn't put one

blackfly down.

No, this campaign

requires first rate

equipment and a

personal commitment

to rid my house

of this menace.

I was directed to

the flyswatter rack.

A few practice swings

convinced me that the

R-38 from Enoz would

do the job.

Then yesterday, while

preparing beakfast,

one buzze3d me from

nine o'clock high, but

escaped before I

could locate my weapon.

Moments later

he reappeared,

reconnoitered overhead

then settled

on the hanging lamp.

SWACK! A backhanded

smash set the

lamp asway as

the enemy dropped

like a stone.

Vengeance was mine!

A first kill is a thrill

not soon forgotten, right?

I mean, they started it,

so I'm entitled... okay?

Besides, I'm a lot bigger,

know wht I mean?

Aw... shit.
