Unnecessary Dental Work

Regarding your online article titled "How Many Dentists do we Really Need," [Sept/Oct 1996 issue, at www.wafreepress.org/23/Working.html] I'd like to add that dental fraud is a serious problem. Innocent people are harmed as a result of unnecessary dental work. People are often unaware of the problem with dental fraud until they become victims.

There is great need for a public awareness campaign to warn consumers about dental fraud. Dentists admit they are uncomfortable reporting abuse, improper work, and unnecessary work involving other dentists. The profession is self regulating.

People are often harmed and suffer financial loss as well. When work goes wrong dentists often push patients away leaving them knocking on doors searching for help at their expense. Refunds can be difficult to obtain. If dentists who consider themselves honest are upset by an attempt to warn people about the dentists who aren't, they should start reporting abuse, improper work, and incompetence to protect the public.

I am quite happy to read your article regarding the dental profession. THANK YOU for putting the truth in front of people.

I would love to see the illustration of the teeth with $$$$ on billboards!

Patricia Taylor

Editor's note: Here is Jeff Weedman's 1996 illustration again for people to admire. No billboard, but at least you might leave a copy of this in your dentist's waiting room!

Support Bush Inquiry

The Bush administration recently asked for another $70 billion for the Iraq invasion. Total cost of both the Iraq and Afghanistan invasions for 2006 is $120 billion. The total cost of both Iraq and Afghanistan so far is $440 billion.

The House just voted to make $39.5 billion in cuts to Medicaid, Social Security for the disabled, child care programs and student loans. How long will Americans tolerate this fraudulent and illegal invasion of Iraq to be paid for by those who can least afford to pay? How many more of our precious young people will die, be mutilated and disfigured because of the administration's suspect claims about Iraq? What additional constitutional freedoms must Americans forfeit in the endless "war against terror"?

Please urge Representative Larsen to support H Res 375, a resolution of Inquiry which, if passed, will require the Administration to "transmit all information relating to communication with officials of the United Kingdom between January 1, 2002 and October 16, 2002 relating to the policy of the United States with respect to Iraq".

The Downing Street papers provide strong evidence that the administration worked for months to deceive the public and Congress. Additionally, the administration outing of Valarie Plame, a CIA agent, was in retaliation against Ambassador Wilson who had the courage to debunk some of the administration's false claims to justify the war.

H Res 375 gives the President the opportunity to clear his name and demonstrate that the invasion of Iraq was justified. Write Rick Larsen!

Let's Go Gandhi

What will it take for the majority of you who don't support the occupation of Iraq or the Bush regime to rise up? Polls tell us that 59% of you believe the occupation is wrong and we are being lied to by Bush. I do not see 160 million of you out in the streets. Again, what will it take? I will tell you what it took to get me off of my ass. It took my sweet beautiful nephew Casey's blood spilling in Sadr City Baghdad. It took watching my sister and family suffer a pain I don't think I can ever explain well enough but know it is a pain I would not even wish on the Bush family. I feel an indefensible guilt because of my apathy. I live daily thinking maybe Casey and 2300 other kids would still be alive if I had been in the streets prior to March 19 2003. Our civil rights are slowly being taken from us.

The Senate voted 89-10 to renew the Patriot Act. It still must pass the house. After hearing of the Dubai port deal and learning of the illegal wire tapping of Peace activists it is very apparent to me that the Patriot Act is used more to curtail the actions of US citizens than to protect us from Terrorists. Patriot Act II will further increase the powers of the Bush regime and further diminish our rights.

So when will you wake up and rise up?

Will it be when you are arrested for trying to deliver a petition to a Government entity that your tax dollar pays?

Will it be when you are arrested for wearing a shirt a government official finds offensive?

Will it be when your e-mails and phone conversations are monitored by the NSA?

Will it be when your child's brains are blown out in a foreign country?

Tell me please what it will take?

I was having this conversation with a dear friend of mine. Someone on our side. But a person comfortable in life and as yet untouched by the last five years. When I asked her to speak out, call her congressman, newspaper, etc. She said to me "who would listen?" my answer to her, no one if you don't do anything.

I can't stress enough to you. At some point your life is going to be impacted by this administration of evil and greed. I implore you, I beg you, don't wait until it is too late. The time is now to take our country back. The time is now to make our elected official do our will.

Non Violent Civil Disobedience is a time tested and proven tool to effect change.

To quote Gandhi:

You assist an evil system most effectively by obeying its orders and decrees. An evil system never deserves such allegiance. Allegiance to it means partaking of the evil. A good person will resist an evil system with his or her whole soul.

We must as Rep. Maxine Waters puts it "put street heat" on congress. It is time for us to as Ralph Waldo Emerson put it "cast our whole vote".

You must now be willing to do as much as you can to reclaim our country. Can you make daily phone calls to your Senators and Congressmen? I think you can. Can you get out one hour a week in front of the homes of your Congressional reps demanding they do our will? I think you can. Will you dig your heals in and stand your ground when they will not listen? I think you should.

It is time to go Gandhi on them... will you?

In Peace,

God's Will be With You

To eliminate world tension we need to reduce individual tension, beginning with ourselves. Peace cannot be forced by threats of punishment through violent means.

Violence begets violence. These ways to peace are counter-productive. To bring peace we need to find new ways of self-government which must be in harmony with the laws of nature, and be fostered with love in community sharing.

Only you and I can protect our own freedoms, first by knowing what they are, then speaking up for them. Who else can do it?

Fear is a powerful tool, used by some to control. When we are free of our own fears then we can enjoy the peace within. All this comes from loving ourselves and loving others.

Be participants in life. Live from your heart so the Universal Intelligence can express through you. I know both destruction and construction. I choose to construct! I wish to express my own creativity on Earth.

May we have peace, love and joy on Earth!
